At 31 I found myself lost in addiction, suffering from a series of mental health issues and out of work for over 5 years. I met Shumela (MD of RLP) in February 2020 at RLP’s open day at Alloa Town Hall. I had attended the function as a representative of Forth Valley Recovery Community. After a quick chat with Shumela during lunch that day I expressed my interest in RLP’s work. It wasn’t long after that I found myself meeting with Shumela and joining in on the Hard Edges project. THEN LOCKDOWN HIT! Quickly I became involved in the Crafty Kids project and within a matter of weeks I found myself managing the project with Shumela’s support.
Now, a year since I first met the RLP team, I am a manager within the organisation, working a second job with Forth Valley Recovery Community as a Assistant Support Worker, studying part time with Stirling University on the Access to Degree Studies Course, 18 months in recovery from addiction and FINALLY able to control my Mental Health! None of this would have been possible without the support and encouragement from Shumela and the rest of the RLP Team.
